Laverne E. Sermersheim, 89, Jasper

Laverne E. Sermersheim, 89, of Jasper, died Wednesday (August 15) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Jasper July 11, 1929, to Anita (Brelage) and Leo Durcholz. She married Jerome A. Sermersheim September 25, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He died in 2008.

Laverne was a waitress at Heichelbech’s Restaurant for 32 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the St. Anne’s Society, and TOPS. She enjoyed her friends, hosting parties, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Connie Helming and husband Bernie and Carla Matheis, all of Jasper, Bonnie Keusch, Ireland, and Lori Koerner and husband Matt, Washington; five sons, Gary Seremersheim and wife Charlene, Mark Sermersheim and wife Sharon, and Nick Sermersheim and wife Tammy, all of Ireland, Jeff Sermersheim and wife Patty, Stendal, and Daryl Sermersheim and wife Beth, Boise, Idaho; 32 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Irma Kinder, Ireland; and two brothers, James Durcholz and wife Linda, Jasper, and Lenny Durcholz and wife Sharon, Florida.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Reg and Duane Sermersheim, son-in-law Dennis “Red” Keusch, and grandson, Derek Arvin.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Becher Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
