George Leland Norris, 88, Huntingburg

George Leland Norris, 88, of Huntingburg, died Saturday (August 11) at The Waters of Huntingburg. He was born in Loogootee October 2, 1929, to Ernest and Ethel Mae (Washer) Norris. He married Ella Mae Meyer April 19, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She died June 12, 2014.

George was a retired construction worker and a member of Labor Local #561. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church; enjoyed bowling with friends; and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Harder and husband John, Alfordsville, Diane Kapp and husband Terry, Branchville, and Lisa Fuhrman and husband Randy, Huntingburg; one son, Kenneth Norris and wife Karen, Holland; daughter-in-law Barbara Norris, Holland; one brother, Merle Norris, Bowling Green, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, George Alan Norris, four sisters, three brothers, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer vigil, led by Deacon Tom Holsworth, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences can be shared at  Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Ryan Hilderbrand.
