Jasper Man in Jail After Running From Police and Being Tasered

A Jasper man has been arrested after running from officers last night.

Police received information about possible drug activity in the parking lot of the Circle A on Newton Street just before 9 o’clock.

Officers responded and the suspect, 31 year old Brian Kelly of jasper, allegedly fled the scene on foot.

Police used a tazer to subdue the suspect and take him into custody and discovered about 5 grams of marijuana along with paraphernalia in Kelley’s pocket.

He was charged with possession of those items along with one count of Resisting Law Enforcement and lodged in the Dubois County Community Center.

May 23rd-24th-25th 2014 Meteor Shower ...  The annual Perseid meteor shower is set to hit its full viewing potential and rain down an abundance of “shooting stars” Sunday night into Monday morning.  Dubois County should have optimum viewing potential.

This year, the peak of the shower should be out of this world. According to NASA’s website, this weekend promises dark nights due to diminished moonlight from the new moon, bringing “some of the better skies” to view natures own light show.

The shower’s peak should occur this year from Aug. 11-13, but the night of Aug. 12-13 is expected to be the best time to watch.

The meteor activity has been ongoing for more than two weeks and will continue for about another week. During the Sunday night peak, Steve said up to 60 meteors an hour (an average of one per minute) could be visible.

According to information on the NASA website, the Perseids — which are visible annually in July and August — are mostly small bits of grit that were expelled from a comet named Swift-Tuttle and continue to follow this comet’s orbit as they slowly disperse. When the Earth approaches the stream of debris, the Perseid meteor shower appears. The shower got its name from the fact that the meteors seem to come from a single point in the constellation Perseus.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning to residents regarding a scam in which callers are identifying themselves as the sheriff’s department.

The callers are telling potential victims they have violations or warrants in an attempt to get  private information.

The sheriff’s department wants the public to know that although they do occasionally contact residents by phone, they will NEVER ask for personal information when making those calls and that they again will NEVER ask for money over the phone.

If you happen to receive one of these calls, hang up and call the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department at 812-482-3522.

Local Candidate Follows Trump Playbook:

Associated Press file
Republican Senate candidate Mike Braun frequently criticizes his opponent, vulnerable red-state Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly, for once owning stock in a family business his brother runs that operates a factory in Mexico. However, the Republican nominee’s own parts brand, Promaxx Automotive, sells products that were similarly manufactured abroad, according to a review by The Associated Press.

University of Evansville political science professor Robert Dion said most voters probably don’t care where Braun’s gets his parts.

But, he added, there’s a catch: “If you’re going to say one thing and do another, that becomes a problem.”
