Ronald J. “RJ” Knies, 78, Celestine

Ronald J. “RJ” Knies, 78, of Celestine, died Saturday (August 11) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Celestine December 5, 1939, to Leo T. and Irene (Haas) Knies.

RJ served in the Indiana National Guard, worked as a carpenter, and retired from Reynolds Construction Company where he worked for several years. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus in Celestine, the Celestine Community Club, and the St. Celestine Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters, Faye Fuhs and husband Joe, Jasper, Christine Harbeson and husband Leland, Ramsey, and Nicole Robinson and husband James, Louisville; three sons, Jeffrey Knies, Loogootee, Todd Knies and wife Adriana, Plantation, Florida, and Ryan Knies, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Mehringer and husband Kenneth, Jasper, and Lori Baumeyer and husband Dean, Evansville; four brothers, four brothers, Herman Knies and wife Nancy and Keith Knies and wife Debbie, all of Jasper, John Knies and wife Rosie, Arlington, Texas, and Jack Knies and wife Jane, Goshen; and sisters-in-law Mary Lee Knies, Ferdinand, and Virginia Knies, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded ain death by two brothers, Kenneth and Allen Knies.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. A rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday by members of St. Isidore Parish, the Celestine Knights of Columbus, and the Celestine Community Club. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Celestine Catholic Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
