Richard E. Dell, 76, Dubois

Richard E. Dell, 76, of Dubois, died Tuesday (August 7) at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Saline, Michigan, January 29, 1942, to Lloyd C. and Luella E. (Burkhardt) Dell. He married Barbara Ann Zehr November 24, 1966, in the Norton Air Force Base Chapel in San Bernardino, California.

Richard was a Untied States Navy veteran, serving for 20 years. He rose to the ranki of Chief Petty Officer and aboard five ships, including the aircraft carrier JFK during the Vietnam War. After retirement from the Navy he worked at Jasper Electric Motors and Jasper Engines. His hobbies included woodworking, crafting pens and pencils, and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Dell; one daughter, Kristina Dell Lewis and husband Ronald, Beaufort, South Carolina; one son, Timothy D. (Mary Melissa) Dell and wife Mary Melissa, Greensboro, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Emily Smith; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Lola Dell.

A memorial service will be held in November at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, where he served on the church council and repaired handbells. Internment will follow in the St. Peter’s UCC Cemetery in Dubois. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be shared at
