Gregory R. “Greg” Birge, 59, Jasper

Gregory R. “Greg” Birge, 59, of Jasper, died Friday (July 20) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Medford, Oregon, December 20, 1958, to Ray and Doris (Burritt) Birge.

Greg was a 1977 graduate of Freemont High School. He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1978 to 1984. He was a deputy sheriff  in San Joaquin, California, from 1990 to 1995. He earned an associate’s degee in business from the University of Phoenix. He worked as a salesman for Stens in Jasper for 10 years and was a member of  the Jasper Moose and the NRA. He enjoyed shooting sports, cooking, and hunting and fishing, loved watching golf, and had a passion for helicopters.

He is survived by one daughter, Sophie Birge, Jasper; two sons, Max Birge, Jasper, and Greg Birge, Jr. and wife Kristin, Atlanta, Georgia; his father and stepmother, Ray and Anne C. Birge, Lincoln, California; his stepfather, George Stegemann, San Ramon, California; and one sister, Michelle Kroetch and husband Rick, Somerset, California.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Stegemann.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center.Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A service begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Fr. John Boeglin will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date. American Legion Post No.147 will conduct military rites.
