Car Crash Sends a Birdseye Woman to the Hospital:

Dakota Madden, 23, of Birdseye, was eastbound on Schnellville Road in a 1999 a pickup truck at about 4:40 p.m. when he dozed off and his vehicle crossed the center line and drove into the path of a Chevrolet S-10 driven by Margie Cooper, 57, of Birdseye.The two vehicles collided and Cooper’s S-10 was pushed off the road into a ditch. Madden’s vehicle continued east before running off the road where it crossed a ditch and ended up in a yard.Cooper was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated by the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department.  She was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for a leg injury.Madden was treated at the scene.  Both vehicles were considered total losses.  Madden was cited for driving while suspended.Santa Claus Creates New road:

Construction has now begun in Santa Claus on a new roadway to help residents avoid heavy traffic going to and from Holiday World.

The $1.3 million dollar road project will connect Highway 162 with 245 and should be open sometime later this year.

The First HEP-A Death in Indiana This Year:

Though other states have had deaths, Indiana has now the first death this year from the virus from Hepatitis-A.

The state health department is not commenting about the patient because of privacy laws. Hep-A is a highly contagious disease of the liver.  The outbreak has caused multiple deaths throughout the USA.

The State Health Commissioner urges all to protect yourself by keeping your hands washed, and getting vaccinated, especially if you’re in a high risk category.

Gas Prices on the Rise Again:

Indiana – State wide, most gas prices are at $3 per gallon again and may rise further as OPEC may decide to decrease production.  NNDC will keep you updated.

Reason for Arrest: Domestic Battery
Charges Filed: Domestic Battery, Intimidation, Criminal Confinement, On 7/11/18 a woman came to the Jasper police station and requested to speak to an officer. The woman advised that her boyfriend Jose Rodriguez Martinez had been drinking and then headbutted her while she is three months pregnant and in the presence of her juvenile son. The woman then said that Jose had grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened her with it. Jose would not let his girlfriend leave during the incident and would not let her use her cell phone to call for help. Jose was located at a relatives house and was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center without incident
