Dubois County (NNDC):

– New details in the murder of Darin Atkins in Birdseye last July, this as the court has unsealed documents in the case, following the arrest of two people.

40-year-old Jason Atkins and 41-year-old Sarah Andry made initial court appearances yesterday on charges of murder and aggravated battery.

Court documents, unsealed yesterday, lay out a tense relationship between the suspects and the victim.

Police allege the female, Sarah Andry, had dated Darin and Jason off and on for the past few years.

Things escaleted last July when the suspects allegedly went to the victim’s home where a tense argument ensued.

investigators allege Jason Atkins admits to hitting the victim once in the head with a baseball bat, knocking him unconscious.

He  subsequently left the room while Andry allegedly beat the victim with the bat a second, several times.

An autopsy showed the man died of blunt force trauma to the head.

During Tuesday’s preliminary hearing, both suspects were ordered to be held without bond on the murder charges.

They will be back in court once a public defender has been assigned.
