John G. Burger, 60, Jasper

John G. Burger, 60, of Jasper, died Tuesday (June 12) at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Jasper September 14, 1957, to Virgil and Anna Mae (Schnaus) Burger. He married Cathrine Titzer November 13, 1993, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

John was a fifth generation independent turkey farmer. He was active in local politics, serving the public for 18 years, first as a county councilman and later as a county commissioner. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper where he served on the school board. He enjoyed gardening, coaching, and watching his children play sports. He was an avid Purdue sports and University of Evansville basketball fan.

He is survived by his wife, Cathrine Burger; three daughters, Jordan Burger, Indianapolis, and Olivia and Emily Burger, both of Jasper; one son Caleb Burger, Jasper; his mother, Anna Mae Burger, Jasper; two sisters, Kathy Hopf and husband Gary, Jasper, and Lisa Melloh and husband Nick, Indianapolis; and two brothers, Mike Burger and wife Shannon, Chesterfield, Missouri, and Jim Burger and wife Beth, Evansville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Burger.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Precious Blood Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Precious Blood Church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
