Michael J. Bohnert, 66, Jasper

Michael J. Bohnert, 66, of Jasper, died Wednesday (June 6) at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Huntingburg June 25, 1951, to Paul E. and Anna M. (Rohlman) Bohnert. He married Lynne Meyer June 21, 1975, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Mike was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Bohnert Shell Station in Jasper for over 25 years and retired from Ruxer Ford Lincoln in Jasper. He was a member of St. Joseph in Jasper. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He was known for his ability to fix about anything and enjoyed spending time and traveling with his family and friends. His grandson George was the “apple of his eye.”

He is survived by his wife, Lynne Bohnert; two sons, Zachary Bohnert, Jasper, and Alex Bohnert, Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Molly Gately and husband William, Montclair, New Jersey; one grandson, George Gately; one sister, Martha Hochgesang and husband Kerry, Jasper; sister-in-law, Pam Schneider and husband Greg, Jasper; and nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Mark A. Bohnert.


Friends may call from 1-7 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. A rosary will be prayed at 12:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Community Foundation – Jasper Lions Club Eyecare Endowment, St. Joseph Church, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
