Old Jasper Day, Strawberry Festival Sunday

Jasper (NNDC) – Sunday is “Old Jasper Day – Strawberry Festival” in Jasper. Sponsored by the Jasper Lions Club, the Jasper Chamber of Commerce, and Patoka 2000, the fun-filled day is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The activities include the Strawberry Festival (strawberries, sandwiches, and other treats all day long in the shelter house by the Plaza), Spirit of Jasper Train Rides (Tickets are $3 and will be on sale in the Jasper Train Depot. Rides tentatively scheduled at noon, 1, 2, and 3 o’clock. Rides are supported by German American Bank), Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides (Scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Hop on near the train depot for a short ride around Old Jasper. No charge to ride, but donations appreciated). Jasper City Mill (Come into the mill and watch as corn is ground into cornmeal every 30 minutes and learn about the history of Jasper and the Mill). Patoka 2000 Duck Race (Begins at 1 p.m. on the Patoka River. Family fun event featuring great prizes. Sponsor one plastic duck for $5 or three for $10. Proceeds benefit beautification of Jasper efforts in and around the Patoka River area). Concert in the Gazebo (scheduled from 3-5 p.m. featuring solo musician Jed Guillaume).

Other activities include walking the 2.1 files of the RiverWalk along the Patoka River all day long, Face Painting by Ruth for a small charge, visiting the Historic Barn on East 4th Street at the entrance to the RiverWalk for lots of activities including stone carvers, blacksmith, hand-hewing of logs and more, and a Historic Walking Tour of Jasper. Just follow the map and learn about Jasper.

Motorists are advised the automobile entrance under the Patoka River bridge into the plaza area is closed. One can park in the train depot area and walk to the plaza or they can park near the Shaeffer Barn using the 4th Street entrance.
