Mary Ann “Annie” Hoppenjans, 78, Ferdinand

Mary Ann “Annie” Hoppenjans, 78, of Ferdinand, died Friday (May 11) at her home. She was born in Ferdinand June 1, 1939, to Alois and Henrietta (Durchholz) Oser. She married Donald Hoppenjans June 10, 1961, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Annie retired as secretary after 35 years working for the Southeast Dubois County School Corporation. She was a lifelong member of St. Ferdinand Parish. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and playing cards, especially weekly card games with her sisters. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sporting activities. and was active in playing softball for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Hoppenjans; three daughters, Karen Hughes and husband Michael, Lamar, and Linda Altman and husband Bill and Beth Rickelman and husband Benny, all of Ferdinand; five grandchildren, Kyle Hughes and wife Holly, Megan Hughes, Kyla and Blake Altman, and Luke Rickelman; three great-grandchildren, Claire, Mya, and Lainey Hughes; and three sisters,  Janet Werne and husband Dennis and Nancy Laake and husband John, all of Ferdinand, and Elaine Brames and husband Ernie, Saint Anthony.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
