Darren Patterson seeking county council seat

Jasper (NNDC) – Darren C. Patterson has filed his candidacy on the Republican ticket for a seat on the Dubois County Council.

Patterson, 52, was born and raised in Jasper. He lives and works in Bainbridge Township and would represent District 2.  Patterson graduated from Jasper High School in 1983 and after graduation, served in the U.S. Army on active duty for three years at Fort Carson, Colorado, and Heidelberg, Germany. After full-time military service, he attended Indiana University-Bloomington and earned degrees in business, economics and psychology. Additionally, his education includes master level studies in business and post-baccalaureate courses in accountancy.
After graduating from IU in May 1992, Patterson was accepted into an Internship Exchange Program in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, where he was a banking intern. The program also included a three-week stay in Pfaffenweiler, Germany, Jasper’s Sister City.  Fluent in German, Patterson has traveled several times to Germany with the Jasper German Club, Rotary International and has made personal visits to explore his German ancestry.
He is the owner of The Mortgage Company of Southern Indiana Inc., which is a loan brokerage specializing in government-backed mortgages for first-time homeowners and veterans. He has over 23 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry.  Patterson retired from the U.S. Army with 21 years for service with the rank of First Sergeant. His awards and achievements include, Expert Infantryman Badge, Drill Sergeants Badge, Airborne Badge, and Meritorious Service Awards. During his military career, he served in the infantry, transportation corps, and was the chief of public affairs for the 100th Division.
Community involvement includes: The Rotary Club of Jasper (founder and past-president), Jasper German Club (past-president), Jasper Kiwanis Club (past-president), and Team Red White and Blue, (veterans outreach director). He is also a member of the American Legion Post 147, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, National Rifle Association and Holy Family Catholic Church.
He is interested in contributing his leadership, communication and financial literacy skills to the community to participate in future growth and economic development.
“I believe my experience as a business owner, former Soldier and community service leader will help me solve tough problems local government will often face,” Patterson said. “Continuing our local efforts to expand and improve our roadways is my primary focus.”
Patterson and his wife, Dr. Ann Patterson, live in Jasper with their four children. He enjoys outdoors activities, such as hunting, fishing and shooting sports.
