David L. Buechlein, 78, Jasper

David L. Buechlein, 78, of Jasper, died Tuesday (April 10) at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Jasper October 16, 1939, to George and Theresa (Fritz) Buechlein. He married Martha Zoll November 24, 1960, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tell City.

Dave served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of VFW Post No. 673. He retired from Jasper Cabinet Company after 41 years of service. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and its Men’s Club, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Jasper Moose. He enjoyed gardening, wine making, Indiana University basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, the St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Buechlein; two daughters, Jackie Howard and Jo Ann Mehringer, both of Jasper; three sons, Brad Buechlein and wife Sheila, Jasper, Mathew Buechlein and wife Dori Yorysh, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Greg Buechlein and wife Nancy, Ireland; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mary Schmitt and husband Howard and Virginia Knies, all of Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice, Ambrose, and Donnie Buechlein.

Friends may call from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at Precious Blood Church. Jasper Moose Lodge No. 1175 will conduct a memorial service at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Church or to a favorite charity. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
