Linus R. Wigand, 87, Jasper

Linus R. Wigand, 87, of Jasper, died Friday (April 6) at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in Jasper September 18, 1930, to John and Alice (Schlachter) Wigand. He married Rosemary Heeke April 25, 1953, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Linus worked at Hoffman Brothers, Sternberg Garage, and retired as a bartender from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 673 in Jasper after 37 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Church, the Holy Name Society, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, American Legion Post 147, Knights of Columbus (since 1952), and was a life member of VFW Post 673. In his youth he enjoyed working on cars. He was a NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed country music, especially the Grand Old Opry, and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Wigand; one daughter, Debbie Collignon, Jasper; three sons, Jeff Wigand and wife Bette, Moline, Illinois, and Gary Wigand and wife Cheryl and Ken Wigand and wife Kelly, all of Jasper; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Cleta Collins, Helen Dooley, Agnes Lewis, and Mary Jane Thalmueller; and one brother, Leon Wigand.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church. The Holy Family Parish will pray a rosary at 2:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
