Dubois REC’s Operation Round Up Awards Grants Totaling $12,400

Jasper (NNDC) – Trustees for the Dubois REC Operation Round Up have presented award grants to seven area organizations, including five from Dubois County. The presentations bring the total amount of Dubois REC grants to $320,151.08 since 2011.

The 2018 recipients and the amounts presented to them are Crisis Connection, Inc., $1,300 for continued training for youth leaders; Northeast Dubois High School Special Education, $2,000 for students to purchase supplies for life stills lessons; Paraclete CEO Ministries of St. Mary’s Church in Huntingburg, $2,500 to help purchase a cooler to store produce which is later distributed to low income residents, food pantries, and other community organizations; Schnellville Community Club, $2,000 to upgrade the lighting in their facility to more efficient fixtures; and St. Patrick’s Celebration, Inc., $2,500 to help purchase a rotary broom to clean streets and curbs, all from Dubois County, and Friends of Otwell/Lil Hoosiers Education Services, $1,000 to improve their existing preschool proram and start a new Pre-K program; and West Crawford Elementary School, $1,100 grant to help fund art and music programs for students.

Operation Round Up is just what the name implies. Dubois REC simply “rounds up” the electric bill of participating members to the next highest dollar. That spare change is overseen by a board of trustees who are also Dubois REC members. Local groups and organizations can then apply for grants from this fund.

Those eligible to apply for the funds includes groups or organizations located within the Dubois REC service territory, which covers Dubois, Crawford, Perry, Pike, Orange, and Martin counties. The fund will not be used to pay any electric or utility bills or be used in any way to support or oppose any political candidate or campaign.

Dubois REC will accept applications for the next grant cycle of Operation Round Up grants May 1-25. Applications must be submitted before 4 p.m. May 25.
