John E. Sermersheim, 78, Ferdinand

John E. Sermersheim, 78, of Ferdinand, died Saturday (March 31) at his home. He was born in Ireland May 2, 1939, to Ben and Victoria (Hopf) Sermersheim.

John was owner and operator of John Sermersheim’s Litter Service, worked for Henke Farms and Kramers Feedmill, and enjoyed driving trucks. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Chruch.

He is survived by one son, Scott Sermersheim and wife Tammy, Ferdinand, three three daughters, Jennifer Sherman and husband Keith and Jill Sicard and husband Greg, all of Ferdinand, and Susan (Deb Lindsey) Sermersheim, of Evansville; one brother, Robert Sermersheim and wife Dolly, Jasper; four sisters, Elizabeth Fuhs and husband Linus,  and Linda Rohleder and husband Wes,  all of Jasper, Rosemary Schnaus and husband Robert,  Ireland, and Rita (Donald) Werne and husband Donald, Plantation, Florida; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerome Sermersheim, and one sister, Dorothy Bartley.

Friends may call from 8-10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ferdinand Community Endowment Fund. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post No. 124 will provide military graveside rites.
