Hilda R. Pfister, 97, Jasper

Hilda R. Pfister, 97, of Jasper, died Monday (April 2) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Jasper on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920, to William “Bill” and Regina (Wenzel) Scherer. She married Don A. Pfister April 27, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died November 20, 1988.

Hilda was the great granddaughter of German pioneers to Dubois County. She was a 1939 graduate of Jasper High School. During World War II she was employed at the old Indiana Desk Company. After raising a family she worked for the Holiday Inn in Jasper before becoming co-owner of Don’s Burger Barn with her husband Don. She also worked 15 years for STAC in her later life. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church, a charter member of the Holy Family Ladies Sodality, St. Anne’s Society, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with family, travelling, playing Bingo, going to the casino, and listening to Daniel O’Donnell.

Hilda is survived by two daughters, Donna Schroeder and husband Jim, Jasper, and Jeanne Pfister, St. Louis; two sons, Robert Pfister and wife Kathy and William J. Pfister, all of Jasper; seven grandchildren, Kim, Kevin, Kurt, and Keith Schroeder, Zach and Krueger Pfister, and Megan Schmieder; and 10 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, four sisters, Anna Mae Gunselman, Bertha Streicher, and infants Laura and Theresa scherer; and an infant brother, Robert Scherer.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, the Dubois County Community Foundation, or to a favorite charity.
