Betty A. Schwenk, 89, Jasper

Betty A. Schwenk, 89, of Jasper, died Monday (April 2) at her home. She was born in Jasper August 9, 1928, to Louis and Clara (Scherle) Kreilein. She married James Schwenk June 14, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died May 12, 2001.

Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its St. Anne’s Sodality, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Women of the Jasper Moose, and the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Cindy Seng and husband Ken, Cheryl Rohleder, and Chris Jahn and husband Romie, all of Jasper, and Cathy Schuetter and husband Dave, Huntingburg; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Kreilein and wife Betty, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Keith Rohleder.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. The St. Joseph St. Anne’s Sodality and the Daughters of Isabella will lead a rosary at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, Kindred Hospice, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
