John Wayne Blemker, 70, Huntingburg

John Wayne Blemker, 70, of Huntingburg, died Wednesday (March 28) at his home. He was born Huntingburg May 18, 1947, Edgar and Mildred K. (Schmett) Blemker. He married Leanna Thompson August 21, 1971, at Huntingburg United Methodist Church.

John was a retired industrial arts teacher. He taught at Southridge, Northeast Dubois, and Forest Park High Schools. He was a softball coach and an assistant football coach. He was a member of Huntingburg United Methodist Church, the Marine Family Support Group of Dubois County, and the Tri-State Marine Family Support Group of Evansville. He was a local Toys for Tots program volunteer. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing and was known for his candy making.

HeĀ is survived by his wife, Leanna Blemker; one son, Jason Blemker, Andover, Minnesota; one brother, Jim Blemker and wife Millie, Holland; one grandson, Jace Blemker; and a number of students and athletes, particularly from girls’ softball teams, who considered him a friend, mentor, and father figure.

In addition to is parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerald Blemker.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Huntingburg United Methodist Church Memorial Fund for youth and outreach.
