Gene Peterson, 86, Birdseye

Gene Peterson, 86, of Birdseye, died Tuesday (March 27) at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Crawford County September 30, 1931, to Fred and Pearl Peterson. He married Neva Madden August 29, 1952, in Franklin. She died August 25, 2017.

Gene was a retired custodian from the Southeast Dubois County School Corporation, a former truck driver, and served as a cook in the U.S. Army. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, was knew him as “Papaw.”

He is survived by three daughters, Donna Hoffman and husband Joe and Lisa Allstott and husband Jerry, all of Birdseye, and Diane Wendholt and husband Dave Mundy, Jasper; two sons, Freddie Peterson, Birdseye, and Gary Paris, Franklin; eight grandchildren, Michelle Burgett, Rachelle Morrow, Stephanie Holloway, Amber Striegel, Laura Rohl, Kayla Allstott, Jacob Hoffman, and Graham Roberts; and seven great-grandchildren, Stevie Burgett, Nicholas Morrow, Sylvia and Annabel Holloway, and Madelynn, Jesse and Brock Rohl.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerome Peterson, and one sister, Olive Partenheimer.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Online condolences may be shared with the family at Funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with burial following in the Birdseye Cemetery. Rev. Kim Allen will officiate at the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post No. 2366 Memorial Detail.
