Nancy Marie Kendall Schaeffer, 97, Huntingburg

Nancy Marie Kendall Schaeffer, 97, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (March 18) at the Waters of Huntingburg. She was born in Huffman Mills April 19, 1920, the seventh of Rev. John and Melissa Kendall’s 11 children. She married Herman Schaeffer in 1945. He died in 1970.

Marie was actively involved in the American Legion, VFW, Eagles, and the Catholic Church, but was best known for her cooking and baking for numerous functions. She was employed by Uhl Pottery, the Whirlpool defense plant during World War II, General Electric, Songer’s Family Restaurant, the Co-Op, and the City of Huntingburg.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Kendall, San Antonio, Texas, and Russell Schaeffer, Huntingburg; one sister, Lois Patton, Huntingburg, five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday and from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer vigil will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday followed by a VFW. Post No. 2366 Auxiliary memorial service at 6:30.  A Moose Lodge memorial service will be held Tuesday before the start of the scheduled rosary prayer vigil. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
