Dog Shot and Killed After Attacking Police

Jasper (NNDC) – After attacking a Jasper City Police officer early Thursday afternoon just off Highway 162 on Jasper’s Southeast side, an aggressive black and white pit bull was shot and killed by the policemen.

Police reports say at approximately 12:40 they received a complaint of a pit bull running at large near Wooden Keg Liquors.  An officer with JPD and a deputy with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department went to Wooden Keg Liquors. Upon their arrival they were advised that the dog had returned to 820 Hilary Drive, where it resides. The officers went to that location and attempted to make contact with the homeowner.

After knocking on the door it opened, a black and white pit bull ran out the door, and the door was slammed behind the dog. The dog ran towards one of the officers in an aggressive manor, snarling, barking and lunged at the officer. In fear of getting bit officers shot the dog to stop its aggressive advance and threat towards them. In turn the dog succumbed to the injuries it received.
