Almeda Wilmes, 92, Ferdinand

Almeda Wilmes, 92, of Ferdinand, died Monday (February 26) at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Ferdinand November 18, 1925, to Simon and Catherina (Rahman) Schum. She married Francis Herman Wilmes June 24, 1952, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He died January 15, 2011.

Almeda was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and its St.Anne’s Sodality. She was a homemaker and helped her family on the farm. She enjoyed cross stitch, cooking, gardening, canning, and caring for her family.

She is survived by two daughter, Linda Epple and husband Ron, Indianapolis, and Diane Fischer and husband Jeff, Santa Claus; two sons, Ralph Wilmes and wife Gina and Bill Wilmes, all of Ferdinand;  daughter-in-law Cheryl Wilmes, Ferdinand; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Weyer, Ferdinand.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Wilmes, one brother, Victor E. Schum, and two sisters, Cornelia Pund and Regina Schum, who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and from 7-9:30 p.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
