Lillian F. Eckert, 90, Ireland

Lillian F. Eckert, 90, of Ireland, died Wednesday (February 21) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Ireland July 2, 1927, to Milton and Geneva (Kearby) Armstrong. She married Urban Eckert September 11, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died August 15, 2010.

Lillian was a homemaker and worked in the Ireland school cafeteria. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and its St. Anne’s Society and the Ireland Sportsmans Club. She enjoyed puzzles, collecting Hallmark ornaments and dolls, watching FOX news, and was a St. Louis Cardinals, Indiana Pacers, and Indiana University basketball fan.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Vonderheide and husband Terry, Ireland; three sons, Jeff Eckert, Jasper, and Rich Eckert and wife Jean and Keith Eckert and wife Sheila, all of Ireland; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy Crane, Valencia, California, Esther Grundhoeffer and husband Kenny, Evansville, and Linda Beard, Jasper; and one brother, Charles “Pete” Armstrong and wife Mary Ann, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Hilma Stenftenagel, three brothers, Lester, Howard, and Donald Armstrong, one brother who died in infancy, and one daughter-in-law, Kelli Eckert.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund, the Kelli Eckert Scholarship Fund, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s church with burial following at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
