Dubois County SWCD Offers Scholarships for Southern Indiana Grazing Conference

The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering scholarships to Dubois County farmers who attend the Southern Indiana Grazing Conference.

The SI Grazing Conference is scheduled March 7, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM EST at the WestGate Academy Conferencing & Training Center in Odon IN. Featured speakers are Dr. Allen Williams, a 6th generation family farmer and founding partner of Grass Fed Beef, LLC.; Dr. Pat Keyser, Director for the Center for Native Grasslands Management at the University of Tennessee; and Dr. Ray Smith, Extension Specialist at the University of Kentucky, with experience in forage management, seed production, and alfalfa and perennial grass breeding.
The cost to attend is $45, which includes lunch and snacks. 4.5 hours of crop management CEU’s have been applied for. The scholarships will refund a portion of this registration fee.

Topics to be discussed include practical applications of adaptive grazing, optimizing warm season forages, utilization of perennial and annual forages, and making tall fescue work.
The Dubois County SWCD Supervisors encourage local cattle farmers to attend the conference. Farmers thinking of converting crop fields to pasture are especially encouraged to attend.

The SWCD is offering a $20 scholarship for FIRST TIME attendees to the conference. In addition, if a returning attendee brings a new attendee, they will receive a $10 scholarship. The SWCD Supervisors are offering the scholarships to the first 15 individuals who contact the Dubois County SWCD office. The scholarships will be paid when the SWCD staff receive verification of attendance at the conference.
