Mary Jo Uebelhor, 84, Jasper

Mary Jo Uebelhor, 84, of Jasper, died Saturday (February 17) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born in Jasper April 8, 1933, Dr. H.G. and Frances (McLaughlin) Backer. She married Paul A. Uebelhor February 8, 1958, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. He died October 11, 1997.

Mary Jo was a registered nurse and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and Dubois County Right to Life. She was an avid reader and cross stitcher and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by three sons, Tony Uebelhor and wife Shelley and Chris Uebelhor and wife Rachel, all of Jasper, and Shaun Uebelhor and wife Hollianne, Encinitas, California; two daughters, Julie Buechler and husband Tom, Jasper, and Laura Roggerkamp and husband Kelly, Georgetown; three brothers, Dr. George “Pete” Backer, LaPorte, Dr. Thomas Backer, Erlanger, Kentucky, and Dr. Joseph Backer, McLean, Virginia; two sisters, Sr. Phyllis Backer, MMS, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Margaret Backer, Ferdinand; and 13 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to Dubois County Right to Life, Holy Trinity Catholic School, or Community C.H.E.W. Online condolences may be shared at            A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Crispine Adongo.
