Verlin C. Kenworthy, 91, of Jasper, died Wednesday (February 14) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Richmond September 27, 1926, to Robert and Hazel (Bryant) Kenworthy. He married Naomi Stetter September 13, 1951, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mars Hill.

Verlin served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member and past post commander of VFW Post No. 673 and served on its Honor Guard Detail. He was in the automotive tool business throughout his life, working for Sun Equipment, selling Snap-On and Matco tools, and retiring from Jasper Engines. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, playing poker, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Kenworthy; two daughters; Carol Wonnell, Lebanon, and Kathleen Mantione and husband Joe, Boulder, Colorado; three sons, Robert Kenworthy and wife Tessie, San Diego, California, Randall Kenworthy, Nashville, Georgia, and Ronald Kenworthy and wife Cathy, Louisville; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Jane “Janie” Eversole and Jeanette Terrell, and one brother Eugene Kenworthy.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Holy Family Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday at Holy Family Church. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military gravesite rites at church with burial following in Patoka Lake Memorial Cemetery in French Lick.
