Helen A. Englert, 90, Jasper

Helen A. Englert, 90, of Jasper, died Monday (February 12) at the home of a son in Ferdinand. She was born in Ferdinand July 24, 1927, to Leo Sr. and Theresia (Stetter) Gehlhausen. She married Hilbert J. Englert October 8, 1949, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He died June 27, 2004.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and its St. Anne’s Society. She retired as QMA at Providence Home in Jasper after many years of service. She also worked at Northwood Good Samaritan in Jasper. Her hobbies included taking careĀ of her vegetable and flower gardens and working crossword puzzles. She loved reading, animals, and music, especially waltzes and polkas.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis Englert and wife Mary Frances, Jasper, Steve Englert and wife Rowena, Schnellville, and Dave Englert and wife Karen, Ferdinand; two daughters, Ann Wade and husband Roy, Evansville, and Vida Troutman and husband Jeff, Jasper; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemarie Reckelhoff and husband Roman, Cincinnati, and Dorothy Fehribach, Jasper; and one brother, Eugene Gehlhausen and wife Virlee, Ferdinand.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by and infant son, Michael Leo Englert, two brothers, Irvin Gehlhausen and Leo Gehlhausen, Jr., and one sister, Esther Reckelhoff.

Friends may call from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
