Gloria L. O’Brien, 84, Jasper

Gloria L. O’Brien, 84, of Jasper, died Wednesday (February 7) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Huntingburg March 15, 1933, to Theodore and Zella (Schurz) Bretz. She married Fred J. O’Brien August 13, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Gloria retired as a clerk for the Jasper City Utilities Office and also worked for Danner’s 3D Store in Jasper. She was a longtime volunteer for Holy Family Catholic School in Jasper and was active in the Holy Family Young Hopefuls 4-H Club. She enjoyed sports, drawing, watching her grandchildren play sports, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Fred O’Brien; two daughters, Patti O’Brien, Huntingburg, and Liz Milligan and husband Joe, Jasper; three sons, Michael O’Brien and wife Andrea and Steve O’Brien and wife Lisa, all of Jasper, and Jim O’Brien, Lebanon; 11 grandchildren; one step-grandchild, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a favorite charity. Condolences may be made at Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Don Ackerman will officiate.
