Southridge Finishes Second In IHSAA Wrestling Sectional

Huntingburg (NNDC) – The host Southridge Raiders finished second Saturday in the 9-team IHSAA High School Boys Wresting Sectional at Memorial Gym in Huntingburg. The Raiders, with two individual firsts and four runners-up leading the way, finished with 222 team points, second only for Floyd Central’s 245.5. Other team scores were 3. New Albany 177, 4. Pike Central 162, 5. Jasper 142, 6. North Knox 116, 7. Bedford-North Lawrence 63.5, 8. Mitchell 41, and 9. Forest Park 40.

Individually, Southridge’s Brad Springer and Tucker Schank claimed blue ribbons. Springer eliminated Ethan Bohnenkamp of Mitchell with a major decision 14-6 win in the 160 pound class final, Schank decisioned Colten Foster of North Knox, 2-1, to win the 152 pound class. Southridge’s Matt Springer was second to Max Meyer of Floyd Central at 132, Cole Calvert second to Aaron Mosley of New Albany at 182, Mitchell Carter was runnerup to Jacob Sisk of Pike Central at 220, and Wyatt Kramer was second to Silas Goff of Pike Central at 285 pounds.

Jasper’s Zachary Flynn won the 170 pound class with a 15-4 major decision over Korde Weber of North Knox. The Wildcats’ Sam Bies was runnerup to Tristan Sellmer of Floyd Central in the 145 pound class. Forest Park’s Issac Brosmer was runnerup to Gavinn Alstott of Floyd Central in the 106 pound class.

The top four places qualify for individual regionals and fifth place is the alternate. Southridge has nine qualifiers and one alternate, Jasper has six qualifiers and four alternates, and Forest Park had three qualifiers and one alternate.
