Charles William Peters, 78, Santa Claus

Charles William Peters, 78, of Santa Claus, died Tuesday (January 23) at Transcendent Healthcare of Boonville. He was born in Mill Shoals, Illinois, July 14, 1939, to Simon Charles and Emma (Hucker) Peter. He married Judith Ann Seng June 27, 1959, at the First Christian Church in McLeansboro, Illinois.

Charles was owner and operator of Charles W. Peters & Sons Trucking and was a founding co-owner of Family Roots Nursery. He was employed for 22 years at North American Lighting as a Class A tool and die maker. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Huntingburg and was a 50+ year member of both the Ainad Temple Shrine in East St. Louis and the Anthony Daughtry Masonic Lodge #1111 in Cisne, Illinois. He enjoyed spending time with family (especially his grandchildren), gardening, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Peters; two sons, Bryan Peters and wife Wanda, Fairfield, Illinois, and Aaron Peters, Holland; one daughter, Julie O’Connor, Murphysboro, Illinois; daughter-in-law Debbie Peters, Corydon; two brothers, Laverne “Pete” Peters and wife Judy, Dahlgren, Illinois, and James “Jim” Peters and wife Sharon, Longmont, Colorado; and four grandchildren, John Michael, Elizabeth, Bryce, and Emma Peters.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 1-4 p.m. (EST) Sunday at First Christian Church in McLeansboro. Dubois County Masonic Lodge #520 F&AM will conduct a masonic vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Shrine walkthrough will take place during the vigil service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis or to the Spero Family Services Murphysboro Youth Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in McLeansboro with burial following in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in McLeansboro. Brother Carroll Kakac and Rev. Robert “Bud” Sefried will officiate.
