Jasper 4th In Big 8 Wrestling; Bies Wins 145 Class

Princeton (NNDC) – Jasper finished fourth in the Big 8 Conference Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Princeton High School. The Wildcats totaled 154 points with one individual first, two runnersup, four thirds, and four fourths.

Vincennes Lincoln won the team title, Mt. Carmel (Ill.) was second. The final team standings: Vincennes Lincoln 193, Mt. Carmel 177, Boonville 166, Jasper 154, Mt. Vernon 97, Princeton 64, and Washington 22.

Jasper’s Sam Bies was the 145 pound champion. He pinned Braydon Berberich of Mt. Carmel and Drake Ricketts of Mt. Vernon in the first two rounds and then decisioned Cameron Hurst of Boonville in the final match, 5-2. The Wildcats’ Noah Heim was runenrup in the 152 pound class and Zach Rydberg in the 195 class.

Jasper’s Cameron Eckstein (113), Zach Flynn (170), Abhay Rathee (182), and Quad Popp (285) finished third in their respective classes, Reece Fromme (120), Chase Mehringer (126), Landon Betz (138), and Ayden Wigand (160) all finished fourth.
