Craft Beer Retreat Scheduled at St. Benedict’s Brew Works

Ferdinand (From Release) – St. Benedict’s Brew Works and the Sisters of St. Benedict are offering a monastic craft beer experience next month. The Brewing With the Spirt retreat is scheduled February 16 and 17 on the grounds of the Monastery Immaculate Conception, 860 East 10th Street in Ferdinand.

Brewery owners Vince Luecke and Andy Hedinger will share the history of beer and reflections on gospel parables about grain, earth, yeast, and water. Participants will sample beers, learn beer terminology, and make craft beer.

Sign-in begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 16, at the Benedictine Hospitality Center in Kordes Hall, 841 East 14th Street. The program begins at 7 p.m. at the St. Benedict’s Brew Works. The first evening will feature a social and a discussion of beer styles for brewing on the second day. The retreat concludes at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The size of the retreat is limited to 12 people. A similar retreat will be held March 23-24. Cost is $235, which includes meals abundant beer sampling, and one night of lodging at the hospitality center in Kordes Hall. The commuter cost is $175.
