Dennis A. Schaeffer, 79, Ferdinand

 Dennis A. Schaeffer, 79, of Ferdinand, died Thursday (January 11) at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in Ferdinand February 15, 1938, to Albert and Elizabeth (Krampe) Schaeffer. He married Louise E. Burger November 22, 1962, in Jasper.

Dennis was a retired owner of Key Associates Realty and Auction Company. He was a former school bus driver and an appraiser. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and served on its parish council. He was a former township advisor for Cass Township, served on the 4H Council and the St. Henry Quasquicentennial Committee, and was a member of the St. Henry Community Club, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, where he was a former commander, the Huntingburg VFW No. 2366, and Huntingburg Eagles No. 0758. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre and Sheepshead.

He is survived by his wife, Louise “Lou” Schaeffer; one son, Nick Schaeffer and wife Cassie, St. Henry; two daughters, Shelly Boeglin and husband Ed, Huntingburg, and Melissa Mehringer and husband Kevin, Jasper; three sisters, Anna Mae Pund, Rita Oser and husband Jim, and Alberta Oeding all of Ferdinand; and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Schaeffer.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Henry Church or the St. Henry Fire Department. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.
