Ruth V. Braun, 94, Jasper

Ruth V. Braun, 94, of Jasper, died Friday (January 5) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Lost River Township in Martin County November 26, 1923, to Merlin and Elsie (Cooper) Wininger. She married Curtis C. Braun July 1, 1945. He died December 31, 1987.

Ruth was a homemaker and an active member of the Central Christian Church in Huntingburg where she taught Sunday school for 47 years and was a member of the church choir for many years. She entertained musically for many years at area nursing homes, enjoyed daily cross word puzzles, gardening, and bird watching. and was an avid reader.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Sermersheim and husband R.J. “Pete,” Jasper; one son, Douglas Braun and wife Jane, Jasper; four grandchildren, Libby Sermersheim and Katie Sreniawski and husband Sean, all of Indianapolis, Audra Levy and husband Jamie, Jasper, and Jill Haas and husband Keith, Lexington, Kentucky; eight great-grandchldren, Grant, Hannah, Joel, Sylvia, Jake, Anna, Olivia and Nora; and three sisters, Rose Bauernfiend and Eldean Sherfick and husband Gene, all of Shoals, and Pat Underwood, Huntingburg.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Trambaugh, and two brothers, Woodrow Wininger and Merlin Wininger, Jr.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Norh Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church or to a favorite charity. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Craig Taylor will officiate.
