Edawinna Anne Heeke, 62, Jasper

Edawinna Anne Heeke, 62, of Jasper, died Monday (January 8) at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. She was born in Huntingburg June 5, 1955, to John and Priscilla (Doerner) Thurman. She married Bill Heeke February 16, 1974. He died September 14, 1999.

Anne was a 1973 graduate of Jasper High School and a unit secretary at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper for 17 years. She volunteered at the Community Food Bank, served as president of the Jasper (Women) Jaycees (1982-1983), and was the first female president of the Jasper Jaycees (1989-1990). She did volunteer work with the Jasper Little League and Jasper Band Parents concessions for many years, was active in the Dubois County Democratic Party and was the 1993 recipient of the President Community Excellence Award presented by the Jasper Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by one son, Terry Heeke and wife Sherri, Murray, Kentucky; one daughter, Amanda Drew and husband Mike, Jasper; seven grandchildren; Bill, Charlie, Maude, Maris, Burns, Mathilda, and Doerner; one sister, Angela Brooks, Jaser; two brothers, Scott Thurman, Indianapolis, and Bernie Thurman and wife Tammy, Jasper; her step-mother, Jacqueline Thurman, North Vernon; four sisters-in-law, Carol Zehr and husband Larry and Linda Trill and husband Brian, all of Jasper, Rose Leisman and husband Kenny, St. Anthony, and Mary Buffington and husband Gary, Dale; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Alan Thurman.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Food Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church in Jasper with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
