Caroline Olivia Wagner, 94, Huntingburg

Caroline Olivia Wagner, 94, of Huntingburg, died Tuesday (January 2) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Ireland July 16, 1923, to Joseph and Anna (Stenftenagel) Schmitt. She married Albert W. Wagner February 19,
1944, in Ireland. He died June 8, 1987.

Caroline was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, the St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality, St. Mary’s Quilters, and Dubois County Right to Life and was a lifelong quilter.

She is survived by Caroline is survived by three daughters, Rita Sermersheim and husband Larry and Susan Polen and husband Dale, all of Huntingburg, and Alice Giesler and husband Mike, Velpen; six sons, Bill Wagner and wife Mary, Escondido, California, John Wagner and wife Linda, San Diego, California, Dave Wagner and wife Mona, Huntingburg, Ralph Wagner and wife Polly, Ferdinand, Dan Wagner and wife Pam, Ireland, and Kenneth Wagner and wife Grace, Dale; sister, Anna Mae Wagner, Jasper; one brother, Richard “Butch” Schmitt and wife Betty, Ireland; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Stuart, one son, Christopher Wagner, one sister, Bertha Brames, six brothers, Anthony, Othmer, Urban, Linus, Ralph, and Leo Schmitt, and one granddaughter, Kim Sermersheim.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Quilting Fund, or Dubois County Right to Life. Online condolences may be shared at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church  with burial following in the church cemetery.  The funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Ryan Hilderbrand.
