Dolores M. Leinenbach, 96, Ireland

Dolores M. Leinenbach, 96, of Ireland, died Sunday (December 31) at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Loogootee. She was born in Jasper April 25, 1921, to Valentine and Suzanna (Keller) Vonderschmitt. She married Eugene Leinenbach May 1, 1943. He died August 20, 1982.

Dolores was a homemaker, helped on the farm, worked in numerous homes in the Jasper area and for Leed’s Selling Tools in Ireland. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, its Anne’s Sodality, and the Christian Mothers Society. She was an avid gardener, quilted numerous quilts for the church, and an exceptional cook.

She is survived by one daughter, Sue Mathies and husband Gary, Loogootee; four sons, Allen Leinenbach and wife Judy, Mishawaka, Steve Leinenbach and wife Kathy, Windsor, Colorado, and Dan Leinenbach and wife Diane, and Mark Leinenbach, all of Ireland; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, John Leinenbach, who died in infancy, one daughter-in-law, Joyce Leinenbach, three sisters, Adel Hopf, Alberta Pfaff, and six brothers, Louis, Gene, Arnold, Ralph, Rudy, and Bernard Vonderschmitt. Dolores was the last surviving member of her family.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Mary’s St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church or a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
