Dubois County Sheriff’s Department announces increased patrols

Jasper – (NNDC) The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department announced today there will be increased patrols near the Bretzville Junction on Sr 162 at the intersection of Sr 64.   The Sheriff department has received complaints from the public reporting vehicles running red lights at the intersection, mostly during the hours of 6 – 7:30am and 4:30 – 6:oopm.

Deputies will be increasing patrol in the area to reduce violation and help prevent accidents.

In an unrelated matter a two vehicle accident closed  Sr 162  for about 30 minutes early this morning when a vehicle driven by 30 year old Allison Schnieders of Troy was stopped at the intersection of Sr 162 and 700 south waiting to make a turn.  Her vehicle was rear ended when the driver of the other vehicle  49 year old Steven Duncan of English could not stop in time.

Duncan was transported from the scene by ambulance to Memorial Hospital to be treated for left knee pain. Allison Schnieders and her 3 minor children were  also transported to Memorial Hospital, Allison complained of neck and back pain, the children were taken for precautionary reasons and had no visible injuries.  The Sheriffs department added that the proper use of child restraints for all three children prevented or greatly reduced the seriousness of the injuries.

Duncan’s vehicle a 2002 Chevy Cavalier was a total loss and Schnieders 2010 Arcadia received extensive damage.  The Dubois County Sherrif Department was assisted at the scene by Ferdinand Police, Ferdinand Fire, First Responders, Dubois County EMS, and Sternberg’s wrecker service.
