Maurice R. Hopf, 77, Jasper

Maurice R. Hopf, 77, of Jasper, died Wednesday (November 29) at the University of Louisville Hospital. He was born in Jasper October 19, 1940, to Paul and Rosina (Burger) Hopf. He married Sharon Jacob October 24, 1964, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Maurice was in the U.S. National Guard, was a member of Ireland Knights of Columbus Council #5581 and Jasper Moose Lodge #1175, served as director of the Jasper Outdoor Recreation and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He worked at Buschkoetters Nursery for 18 years, was a driver for Uebelhor and Sons, and was a retired farmer. He enjoyed gardening, looking after his cattle, playing cards with the grandkids, dancing, watching the Mollie B. Polka Show, Indiana University basketball, and following his kids and grandkids in sports.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hopf; one daughter, Melissa Hopf, Louisville; one son, Adam Hopf and wife Lisa, Jasper, five grandchildren, Isaiah Merriwether, Donovan McDade, and Reagan, Gavin, and Cayden Hopf; one sister, Mildred Oeding and husband Edgar, Jasper, sister-in-law Edna Wigand, Jasper; two brothers, Donald Hopf and wife Almeda and Paul Hopf and wife Camilla, all of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Lorey.

Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Ireland Knights of Columbus will conduct a memorial service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Moose Lodge #1175 will conduct a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ireland Knights of Columbus Council #5581, Riley Children’s Hospital, or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery.
