Southridge Wins Football Sectional In Overtime Thriller

Evansville (NNDC) – The Southridge Raiders outlasted Evansville Mater Dei, 38 to 31 in an overtime thriller Friday night at Reitz Bowl to win the IHSAA 2A Sectional 40 championship. The victory sends the Raiders into the regional round of the playoffs November 10 against Clarksville Providence.

After each team scored 7 points in the first quarter, Mater Dei led Southridge 21-16 at halftime, and 31 to 23 at the end of the third quarter before the Raiders rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 31-31 forcing the overtime.

The Raiders had the first possession in OT and scored on a six yard run by Tucker Schank followed by the PAT kick by Jeovany Dubon. The Southridge defense sealed the victory by keeping Mater Dei out of the end zone on four unsuccessful tries by the Wildcats.
