Lucas O. Stenftenagel, 97, Jasper

Lucas O. Stenftenagel, 97, of Jasper, died Friday (October 27) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Jasper April 28, 1920, to Henry J. and Eleanora M. (Lechner) Stenftenagel. He married Esther Werne June 26, 1948, at the St. Meinrad Archabbey. She died December 1, 2010.

Lucas retired from the Indiana Desk Company in Jasper after many years of service. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper and the Precious Blood Men’s Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by five sisters, Ruth Ann Beck, Mary Schitter and husband Kenneth, Anna Mae Hopf and husband Alfred, and Patricia Mathies and husband Delbert, all of Jasper, and Lucille Recker, Ferdinand; and two brothers, Joe Stenftenagel and wife Martha and Richard Stenftenagel and wife Helen, all of Jasper.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Bleemel, one grandson, Scott Bleemel, one brother, Felix “Jim” Stenftenagel, and two sisters, Dorothy Oeding and Caroline Mehringer.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Precious Blood Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Church or to a favorite charity.
