John S. VanWinkle, 79, Ferdinand

John S. VanWinkle, 79, of Ferdinand, died Monday (October 23) in Adyeville. He was born in Adyeville June 28, 1938, in Adyeville to Preston and Schlostica “Lostie” Dotterweich. He married Phyllis Daunhauer November 14, 1981, in Mariah Hill.

John was a retired machinist for North American Products and a farmer. John loved spending time with animals and working around the family farm and being with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Shelley Wigand and husband Keith, Ferdinand, and Karla VanWinkle and husband Bobby, Munster; two step-daughters, Tammy Spurlock and husband Mike, Santa Claus, and Amy Hagedorn and husband Andy, Adyeville; two step-sons, Kurt (Amy) Daunhauer and wife Amy, Evansville, and Neal Daunhauer and wife Krista, Bloomington; one brother, Harold VanWinkle and wife Mildred, Ferdinand; four sisters, Maxine Boehman,  Jasper, Faye Hagedorn, Santa Claus, Wanda Flamion, Zionsville, and Alice Woebkenberg and husband Alan, Evansville; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jim VanWinkle, and one sister, Lois Ann VanWinkle.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial following in St. Meinrad Church Cemetery.
