Roberta “Bert” Habig, 89, Jasper

Roberta “Bert” Habig, 89, of Jasper, died Monday (October 23) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Greentown March 14, 1928, to James L. “Jack” and Rebecca (Duckworth) Snyder. She married Thomas L. Habig January 31, 1953, in Lafayette. He died May 13, 2002.

Bert was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. She was an avid bowler and golfer in her younger years and competed in many tournaments. She was a volunteer at Jasper Memorial Hospital, loved animals, flowers, and watching birds and took up photography later in life.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie Giesler and husband Terry, and Sandy Jordan and husband Greg, all of Jasper; two sons, Brian Habig and wife Denise, Palm Desert, California, and Paul Habig and wife Sue, Jasper; daughter-in-law Terry Habig, Palm Coast, Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Randall D. “Randy” Habig, one grandson, Kyle T. Habig, four sisters, Charlotte “Tod” Smith, Estella “Stella” Bogen, Janice Smith, and Carolyn Biercbieh, and one brother, James “Bill” Snyder. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at Precious Blood Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Northwood Good Samaritan Nursing Center or the Dubois County Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Precious Blood Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
