Local Groups Receive Operation Roundup Grants Totaling $3,700+

Jasper (From Release) – Trustees for the Dubois REC Operation Round Up last month awarded grants to three local organizations totaling $3,709.78. This brings the total amount of grants awarded to the community to $307,930.56 since 2011. The recipients are Mentors for Youth, Girl Scout Troop 198, and the Dubois Branch Library.

Mentors for Youth, who is dedicated to facilitating mutually beneficial relationships between youth and adults for the purpose of enhancing individual lives and the community, received a $1,900 grant for a new laptop and tracking software program.

Girls Scout Troop 198 received $400 to purchase materials to construct the base and framework of a recycled greenhouse made of two liter bottles for the HOPE Garden. This will allow the HOPE garden to start its planting season early and plant seeds intead of purchasing plants for the garden. The HOPE Garden is a part of the Gold Award Project.

DUBOIS BRANCH LIBRARY – Dubois REC General Manager/CEO Don Book presents grant to Youth Services Librarian Gayle Edelen.

GIRL SCOUNT TROOP 198 – Girl Scout Katelyn Sander (l.) accepts grant from Operation Round Up trustee Brittany Schuetter.

The Dubois Branch Library received a grant for $1,409.78 for a Young Adulting 101 course. The life skills program has been developed to assist in preparing young people for college, career, and life.

Operation Round Up “rounds up” the electric bill of participating members to the next highest dollar. That spare change is overseen by a board of trustees made up of Dubois REC members. Local groups and organizations can then apply for grants from this fund.

Dubois REC will accept applications for the next grant cycle of Operation Round Up grants November 1-22. Applications must be submitted before 4 p.m. Nov. 22.
