Kathleen M. Freson, 91, Huntingburg

Kathleen M. Freson, 91, of Huntingburg, died Thursday (October 19) at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Birdseye December 1, 1925, to Leo and Lucy (Schnell) Welp.

Kathleen was a graduate of Birdseye High School and a Louisville cosmology school. She and her husband Robert A. Freson lived in Huntingburg where she owned and operated Kathleen’s Beauty Salon for over 60 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg and its Ladies Sodality, V.F.W. Post No. 2366 Ladies Auxiliary, and the local hairdressers association for which she served as president. She enjoyed her friendships with beauty shop patrons, watching Indiana University basketball, and attending Dubois County Bombers baseball games with her friend Robert Carnahan.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Bigler and husband Jim, Indianapolis; one son, Paul Freson and wife Julia, Ft. Wayne; one brother, Lee Joe Welp and wife Betty, Birdseye; and one granddaughter, Marissa Sauer and husband Jacob, Ft. Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Freson, who died August 16, 1982, one son, Gary L. Freson, and five siblings.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and a parish rosary prayer vigil at 7:30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Church. The mass will be celebrated by Father Ryan Hilderbrand.
