Cats, Raiders, Rangers Win Sectional Openers

The Wildcats rolled to a 41 to 17 win and will take an 8-2 record and a five game winning streak into the sectional semifinals Friday against Evansville Central.

(NNDC) – Jasper, Southridge, and Forest Park were all victorious Friday night in the opening round of the Indiana High School football sectionals. The Wildcats rolled over Northview, 41-17, in the Class 4A Sectional 24 at Brazil; Raiders coasted to a 46-7 victory over South Spencer in the 2A Sectional 40 at Huntingburg; and, also in the opening round of Sectional 40, the Rangers downed North Knox, 27-14, at Bicknell.

After leading by only 14-10 at halftime, Jasper scored 21 points in the third quarter and went on to coast to victory, their fifth in a row, giving them an 8-2 record heading into the sectional semifinals Friday against Evansville Central, a first round winner over rival Evansville Reitz, 34-6. Central, now 9-1 overall, has won six straight.

Southridge had little trouble with visiting South Spencer on their way to their second romp of the Rebels this season. The Raiders ripped the Rebs, 56-7, back in September. Southridge, now 8 and 2 overall, has won 7 of its last 8 and will play Linton-Stockton Friday in the semifinals. The Miners edged North Posey in a Friday night thriller, 36-35, and will bring a 7-3 record into the second round.

Forest Park’s win over North Knox was the Rangers’ second in a row, giving them a 4-6 record heading into the semifinal round against Evanville Mater Dei. The Wildcats eliminated Tell City Friday, 49-6, giving them a 6-4 record overall.
