Phyllis “Diane’ Birchler, 78, Huntingburg

Phyllis “Diane” Birchler, 78, of Huntingburg, died Monday (October 16) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Huntingburg June 17, 1939, to Gilbert and Mary (Helmrich) Hoffhaus. She Alfred Birchler June 20, 1981, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

Diane enjoyed crocheting, making quilt tops, canning, cooking, fishing, and time with friends and family. She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Lamar.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred Birchler; one son, Scott Hoffhaus and wife Carrie, St. Louis; and one brother-in-law, Calvin Peutzer, Evanston.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Peutzer.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-10 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters UCC or to St. Boniface Parish. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Paul “Chip” Jahn and Father Anthony Vinson, OSB, presiding. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Church Cemetery.
