Joseph G. Mehringer, 78, Jasper

Joseph G. Mehringer, 78, of Jasper, died Sunday (October 15) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Jasper July 11, 1939, to Martin and Irene (Fleck) Mehringer. He married Norma Lampert August 17, 1961, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joe served in the Military Police for the U.S. Army. He retired from the Jasper Cabinet Company after 45 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Church and its Holy Name Society, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, the Ireland Sportman’s Club, Jasper Moose, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, pitching horseshoes, listening to country music, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Indiana University basketball, and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Mehringer; one son, Steve Mehringer and wife Linda, Martinsville; two daughters, Brenda Wynn and husband Kevin, Bradenton, Florida, and Sheila Mehringer, Jasper, two granddaughters, Rachel Bowling and Sarah Mehringer; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome “Baldy” Mehringer and Robert Mehringer and wife Mary Ann, all of Jasper; and his four-legged companion of 13 years, ‚ÄúLexie.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Elmer.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Funeral Home in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
